The fast lane

Top Eleven

Top Eleven, from Nordeus, is the most app-shaped game in this line-up. It is built for phones and tablets first, with PC versions through the Microsoft Store and Google Play Games, plus a play page on the official site that runs in the browser once you sign in with Facebook.

Board shape: 3-4-3

What it is

The official site's pitch is simple: create and lead your own football team, set the tactics and take your club from dust to glory, now in 3D. You build the club from scratch, control every part of it, scout and sign players, and compete against other managers every day.

Behind it is Nordeus Limited, which the footer of the official store describes as a Take-Two Interactive group company. The game is refreshed every year; the current store listing presents the 2027 edition, with new tactical controls, data visualisations and statistical reports, and well-known former players appearing in the game as mentors.

How a season feels

According to the publisher's store listing, a season lasts 28 days and you can enter up to three competitions in each one. Players are signed through real-time auctions against other managers, so the transfer market has a live, slightly frantic edge. Training is built from drills for attack, defence, possession and physical and mental work, with team-play drills to raise form more quickly.

Matches are shown in a 3D engine, and the listing says you can change tactics while a match is running, turning a half-time deficit around if you read it right. Off the pitch you build a Campus with a stadium, a training centre and a treatment wing, and there is a youth academy for finding young talent.

Associations are the group layer. You join one, play a clan-style tournament every weekend, and earn rewards together. For many players this is where the long-term motivation comes from.

Time it asks of you

Daily matches and live auctions make this the most demanding schedule on our board, if you want to keep up. You can play casually, but the design rewards checking in every day, because that is when matches happen and when the best signings go.

Short seasons cut both ways. A bad month is over quickly, but the cycle restarts quickly too, and there is always a next competition to prepare for.

How it pays its way

Top Eleven is free to play. Google Play marks it as containing ads and in-app purchases. The in-game currency is Tokens; the official web store calls them a vital resource, used for things such as signing players and building facilities, and sells Token packs. There is also a seasonal Special Sponsor pass with points and rewards.

Because Tokens touch transfers and facilities, spending can change how fast a club grows. Set your own limit early, and treat the daily rewards and free gifts as a side effect of your routine rather than a reason to log in.
